Private Nobody
Story Behind The Song by Andy Cairns (Mar 29th, 2006)
This deals with solitude and is inspired by ‘Slaughterhouse 5’ by Kurt Vonnegut and Samuel Beckett.
The main riff is an Eastern-flavoured lick and the middle section breaks down to a machine like drone broken up with drill guitar and space. Pedro, the producer, got us to speed the whole track up for a sense of urgency. It took us a while to nail the middle section as it slowed down/sped up but we nailed it in the end.
We looked to Love’s ‘Forever Changes’ for inspiration on the choruses again on this one.
“I am not of the big world, I am of the little world.” - Samuel Beckett, ‘Murphy’.

Lyrics
I’m just a private nobody
My dog-tag reads “leave me alone”
I wake, I live, I sleep
Nothing more
So it goes
Private Nobody
Private Nobody
Billy Pilgrim’s got a kind face
A sign of comfort, an open door
Everybody has a third face
The one they’ll never show
Private Nobody
Private Nobody
Private Nobody
Private Nobody
Private Nobody
