Frequently Asked Questions Competition

Win a Therapy? poster signed by Andy, Michael and Neil

The winners of the Frequently Asked Questions competition have been selected. They will be notified by e-mail and receive a signed poster. All submitted questions will be answered and published on the site in the future, but until then here are the five winners and their questions:

Tim Rushbrook (England): Have you guys ever considered getting Pitchshifter to remix one of your songs and exchange for yours of their ancient classic Diable from The Remix War?

Michael: Funny you should mention that ’cos we’ve got a running joke with Jon Clayden (Pitchshifter mainman) that they ‘owe’ us a remix. It keeps getting mentioned and hopefully the joke will become reality one day.

Kevin Hughes (Ireland): Is there any reason for nearly all the album covers have something to do with heads or faces? Or even distorted heads or faces? Babyteeth—3 faces, Pleasure Death—2 faces again, Nurse—Eye, Troublegum—Head in bin, Infernal Love—Close up of Andy’s face (Mike and Fyfe in background), Semi-Detached—Just two heads out of sand, Suicide Pact—4 heads of animals, High Anxiety—Distorted heads, NANE & Shameless are exceptions tho.

Michael: Hehehe… you know what? I never noticed that before. The Babyteeth and Pleasure Death heads were a conscious effort to ensure continuity between the records but as for the rest… maybe we need to get that looked into.

Philippe Beck (Belgium): Is it true that Michael has what you call in German a ‘Eisenpimmel’?

Michael: I’ve always got an ‘Eisenpimmel’ when I’m on tour.
Andy: Naturlich!

Marcus Toth (Austria): What are you trying to reveal with Potato Junkie?

Andy: That kidney tastes better with a ‘faint tang of urine’.

David Nesvold (USA): Therapy? has had a history that spans 15 years (that I know of), and has recorded many, many songs. Some of those recordings are a little harder to find than others. Is there any chance that the band will release a compilation of scarcer songs? And what about the possibility of these songs being released as part of a boxed set some time in the future?

Andy: Hi David, much good wishes to you and St. Paul, Minnesota. I know some of our recordings are difficult to get (especially in the States, I imagine) but it’s a hard one to sort out I’m afraid. I know that Semi-Detached and Never Apologise Never Explain haven’t been released there for a start but we’ve been with quite a few different labels now and unfortunately (and, contractually) we’re at their mercy.

We would love to get a ‘feel’ of what old stuff you guys out there in North America would like to get yer paws on but ultimately it wouldn’t happen ’coz of the labels.

Just recently myself and Michael sat down and listened to a whole wealth of stuff in his basement ranging from first ever rehearsals through to album outakes and realised that we have enough for several box-sets. This all needs clearance.

My wife bought me the Nirvana box-set for xmas and, after listening to all our material we wanted nothing more than to get the ‘other stuff’ out there.

Southern/Quarterstick/Touch ’n’ Go seem to always have our early stuff available (to their credit and we’re very grateful for that) Universal (A&M, Ark 21) are tetchy on the subject of letting their releases go to outside distribution whilst we’re still working with Spitfire which is cool (’cept for the U.S., sorry dude) who passed on the band before we even recorded NANE.

All I can say to you, David, is to pester the various labels and let them know people give a shit! One of the saddest things about bands is that ‘everybody loves you when you’re dead’.

I’d rather bring out that box-set while I’m alive. Rock on, Andy C.
